NMC has not 1 but 2 tests, to test your competencies. Let’s take them as the bridges you need to cross to reach your dream job. Test 1 of the two is the NMC CBT exam.
CBT – Part 1 Test of Competence from NMC
Computer-based Testing which in short we call as CBT, is a 120 objective based question which you need to complete in a time span of 4 hours. This exam is intended for nurses who are trained outside the European Union and European Economic Area seeking employment as a nurse in the UK. The exam standards differ for the adult that is general nursing, children’s nursing, learning disabilities nursing, mental health nursing, and midwifery. From the ocean of dedicated nurses across the globe only a handful of nurses choose any other category other than General nursing. So it’s safe to say that you prefer the adult nursing more. Now what is asked for this exam you ask, let’s get into that, shall we?
CBT exam format
120 questions in 240 minutes. That’s what you need to pass on to the next step.
In this 120 question, you will be tested for your professional values, communication, nursing decision-making, and leadership.
From this 20 are on the patient or public safety, these questions are listed as critical questions which you have to give the right answers to clear your CBT exam, and which are they? You won’t know. They will be in a jumbled order which you have to give right answers to.
Cost and Booking
NMC outlay this test at 130 pounds, you need to pay the amount during your pre-registration process and you will be given a date based on the available slots. You will be requested to take your exam on the given particular date at a Pearson VUE center. You need to make sure that you choose the dates without delay if you want to write the exam in a months’ time or so.
Things to remember
If unfortunately, you weren’t able to clear the exam in the first go, then you can re-appear for the exam under the same application in 28 days. If you were unsuccessful in that try also then your application will close and you have to restart your process once again but that will only be possible after 6 long months of waiting.
